Some of this might have to do with the accent of the locals: for example, in West Virginia, they say the English word “hollow” as “holler”, and if you just hear them say it verbally, you wont have a clue what they're talking about.
OR the people have common slang that you didn’t learn in your Duo Lingo or Rosetta Stone app.
